Located in the parish of Jardim da Serra, the Boca da Corrida viewpoint provides to those who visit it, a stunning view over Curral das Freiras (Nun’s Valley), as well as Eira do Serrado and Câmara de Lobos!
Standing nearly 1000 meters high, it is the focal point for the route of the Caminho Real da Encumeada, one of the important trails of the past.
Many believe that through this viewpoint it is possible to see the remains of the interior of the crater of a volcano, where Curral das Freiras is located.
This is a viewpoint that lately has gained more importance not only for its landscape, but for being a place that is not much explored, making it a “secret” hidden pearl.
It also has a chapel, in honor of St. Christopher, the patron saint of drivers.
This is where the story gets interesting, as some argue that this chapel was built by Horácio dos Santos Faria, who had the support of local drivers. Others argue that it was a tourist who had it built because her husband had passed away there.
